o Bio: Boutros Boutros-Ghali was the sixth secretary general of the United Nations. He served from January first in 1992 to December thirty first in 1996. At the time of his appointment, he was also the deputy prime minister for foreign affairs for Egypt. He had also served as Minister of State for foreign affairs from the time of October 1977 to 1991. He has had a very long career in foreign affairs, being a diplomat, jurist, scholar, and widely known author. Boutros became a member of the Egyptian parlament in 1987. He was also a part of the secretariat of the National Democratic party in 1980. Until he took the position of secretary general of the United Nations, he was the vice president of the Socialist International. Boutros was a member of the International Law Commission in 1979, and up until 1991. He was a former member of the International Commission of Jurists. He is related to many different associations in the categories of law, international affairs and political science, and specifically, his membership in the Institute of International Law, the International Institute of Human Rights, the African Society of Political Studies along with the Académie des sciences morales et politique. He attended the Cairo Univeristy, where he received his bachelor of law degree. He also attended University of Paris, where he received his Ph. D. in international law. Between 1949 and 1977 at Cairo University, Boutros-Ghali was a Professor of International Law and International Relations. From 1974 to 1977, he was a member of the Central Committee and Political Bureau of the Arab Socialist Union.
